A mess of memories
Escaping from teachers, parents and the street where you live
Bundled into a van with all the other boys and driven through the night to the countryside
Telling ghost stories and staying up late in a smoky old Nissen hut
The sound of rain on canvas while you stay warm in your sleeping bag
Trips to the tuck shop for penny sweets and pop
Scary midnight hikes, loving your new torch
Singing by the campfire wrapped in a blanket and waiting for your spud to bake
Peeing outside the tent because you don’t want to go all the way to the bathrooms
Water fights in the summer
Sleeping bag fights inside the tent
The time you went fishing for sticklebacks with a stick and some line
At dinner you realise you still have some maggots left in your pocket
