(in memoriam for Saul Zachary NYC Poet)
A hawk landed on your sill
she gazed at you in wonder
why and how did she wander
land upon your sill
She took off suddenly
whirled up to gray sky
did you see a light at the window
a light at the threshold
You wandered from room to room
did you wonder in the silence
see the hawk soaring whirling
to another realm
You sketched a poem
and then another
the hawk whirling
to another realm
Alone in your room wandering
did you see your wife
flashing in and out
the hawk whirling
Now you pass to another realm
at the threshold
do you follow the hawk
to another realm
Will you land on the sill of a neighbor
flash a light at the threshold
perhaps a light for those in darkness
in the shadow of death
